Traits And Characteristics Of A Kapha Person

Table of Contents:
Kapha Characteristics

As previously discussed, within the science of Ayurveda, we know that people have a certain dominant Dosha, this blog post deals with the traits of people who have Kapha Dosha predominantly

In terms of metabolic function, Kapha’s gain weight easily, jokingly it’s often said that a Kapha person can gain weight just by watching another eat. Kaphas often have rounded faces and bodies and are generally “big boned”. They have naturally long lustrous nails and feather soft baby smooth skin. They maintain their body temperature easily and show a preference for dry, warm climates.
They often are affected by clammy, cold hands and suffer from sugar cravings and a relentless sweet tooth.

Emotionally, Kapha’ are highly compassionate individuals that frequently show an interest in the professions of teaching, physical, mental and emotional therapy, nursing and human resources. They often put the needs of others above their own and can lean toward being people pleasers. Peaceful and calm they have a tendency to be resistant and slow towards change unless spurred by emotional or physical circumstances.

They often have a tendency to hold onto the past and can become maudlin and depressed or disheartened due to emotional overeating and weight gain. If you relate to these traits and characteristics then there is a likelihood that you are predominantly Kapha. If you exhibit these traits along with some of the traits described in our Vata post, then you could be Vata-Kapha or Kapha-Vata.

If you relate to the characteristics of Pitta and Kapha then you could be Kapha-Pitta or Pitta-Kapha. If you relate equally to all three there is a possibility that you are tridoshic, although this is a rarity. Often people who think they may be tridoshic are in reality just affected by imbalances in all three of the described Doshas, which is more often than not the case.
